Weekly Update for Week of June 1st. Happy June everyone. Final reports card mark will be due fairly soon so it is imperative that if you are hoping to improve your midterm mark, that you get outstanding assignments into me THIS WEEK so I can have time to mark them, assign a weight to them, and then calculate final marks. Please reach out to me if this is not possible. I will be posting two more assignments - this one (assignment 10) and then another mid June.
Also, a schedule is being formed to allow students to come into the school starting June 8th and throughout that week to clean out their lockers and pick up items. Please bring a bag with you to collect your items. You will also be asked to return textbooks, team uniforms, band instruments, and chromebooks/internet sticks that you may no longer need. This is being done under strict health and safety protocols. Students will be allowed into the school only in small groups each day, alphabetically by last names. IF you purchased a yearbook, you can pick it up as well on this day. I imagine that there will be signs or directions given out as to where you go to do various things. Teachers will be on hand to assist you. There is no wandering in the hallways. It is very important that you follow the rules that will be sent to you and your parents in the coming week. Make sure you read the protocols and that you only come in the day and time you are assigned. This will be clearer to you when the official email goes out from Mr. Power. Check emails regularly and check websites. Please tell your parents to do the same. Mr. Power regularly sends out updates to parents as does the school board.
Assignment 10: Due Wednesday June 10th (yes, you have a few extra days to complete this...please do not hand this assignment in late)
This week’s assignment is asking you to examine your communication skills and to consider the importance of networking, making good connections with others, and reaching out to others for assistance when you are looking for a job or want to improve the job you already have. This assignment may prove useful for those of you who are hoping to get a part time job this summer, for those of you hoping to get a full time job out of grade 12, or for those of you hoping to use your co-op connections to help you with employment/apprenticeship opportunities.

After reading the article on 7 misconceptions or fears you may have about reaching out to people regarding work and opportunities, select 2 beliefs from the article that you feel may hold you back. List the belief and then explain what you feel about it and why you think you feel that way. Then tell me how you think you can work on changing this mind set. You can answer these questions based on your co-op experience, part-time work experience you’ve had, or even difficulty you have asking teachers or friends for help and guidance in school.
